Highlights from the New York Auto Show for Students in Auto Training Schools
Held every year since 1900, the New York International Auto Show is the oldest automotive show in North America. While is has since been surpassed by the likes of Detroit and Chicago in terms of size and attention, New York’s timing at the end of the spring auto show season means that many automakers save some of their biggest reveals for the Big Apple.
For that reason, the New York Auto Show is an important occasion for any automotive enthusiast. Here are just some of the biggest highlights from the event.
The Toyota Highlander Is But One Example of the Many SUVs on Display
This year’s show seemed to be dominated by practical SUVs and crossovers, including the Ford Escape, the Hyundai Venue, the Audi Q3, and the Subaru Outback. So, picking just one SUV out of so many is definitely a challenge. However, the 2020 Toyota Highlander stood out for a number of reasons. The fourth generation of Toyota’s best-selling SUV takes everything that has long made this vehicle useful to the average driver and added just enough new features to keep it relevant.
One of the biggest changes is the switch from Hybrid Synergy Drive to Predictive Efficient Drive, which combines learned driver behaviour with GPS data to conserve battery power. The new Highlander also boasts impressive fuel economy and advanced driver safety assistance features as standard. While those may not be eye-popping changes, they’re exactly the sort of practical features that seemed to define this year’s show.
The Ford Mustang Gets an EcoBoost to Help It Stay Dominant on the Road
The Ford Mustang has been around for 55 years and has become the best-selling sports car in the world. To retain that dominance, Ford unveiled a Mustang with an EcoBoost High-Performance Package (HPP) at this year’s show in New York.
Students in automotive schools in Canada often put a high premium on performance, and the HPP Mustang doesn’t disappoint. It gets an extra 20 hp to reach 330 hp and 350 pound-feet of torque. It’s also able to go from 0 to 60 in just 4.5 seconds. Because it’s about 200 lbs lighter and features aerodynamic design elements, including a rear spoiler, it goes faster and saves on fuel. In fact, despite being more powerful, the Mustang with HPP has about the same fuel economy as the base version.
Kia HabaNiro Shows Off Car Tech That Students in Auto Training School Will Love
While there weren’t very many concept cars at the New York Auto Show, one that did stand out was the Kia HabaNiro. With upward-swinging butterfly doors and a deep red interior, the HabaNiro was certainly visually striking. However, it was the cool new technology included that really made this Kia concept so exciting to students in auto training schools.
The car uses artificial intelligence-based bio-signal recognition technology called R.E.A.D. to automatically sense the driver’s emotions and customize the interior accordingly. It also has eye-tracking technology that can sense when a driver is looking for the rearview mirror, which then triggers the appearance of the mirror. While HabaNiro will probably never make it to a dealership, the tech inside could be an indication of what we’ll see from Kia vehicles in the future.
