Rolls Royce has a long-standing reputation as a leading name in luxury. Its classic cars have captured the attention of auto enthusiasts all over the world, and that reach has now been extended into the world of sport utility vehicles (SUVs).

Interest in SUVs has skyrocketed in the past decade, with major auto makers like Cadillac, Porsche, and Jaguar joining in to offer their own luxury versions of the popular all-terrain vehicles. Despite being in development for over two years, details about the new Rolls Royce SUV were hard to come by, and many assumed it was a concept car until the moment it was formally unveiled in London earlier this month.

Read on to find out what you can expect from Rolls Royce’s new SUV.

What Pros with Car Mechanics Training Can Expect from this SUV

From fender to bumper, every inch of the new Rolls Royce SUV evokes class and luxury—it’s even in the name. The Rolls Royce Cullinan took its title from the largest diamond on Earth, which is now included in the British Crown Jewels. Diamonds, of course, are notoriously difficult to damage, which makes the comparison all the more fitting when you take a look under the hood of the Cullinan.

Rolls Royce drew from many different sources throughout its legacy to create the Cullinan. Students in auto mechanic training might be impressed by the powertrain, which is comprised of a twin-turbocharged V-12 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. It was inspired by the famous Rolls Royce Phantom, and has an estimated 563 horsepower as well as a top speed of almost 250 km/h. A self-levelling air suspension system allows drivers to adjust their ride height, and also includes a camera that helps it adjust the height spontaneously to offer passengers a smoother ride. The Cullinan also has the ability to ford up to 53 centimetres of water, and sits on 22-inch narrow sidewall tires.

The Cullinan SUV Renews Rolls Royce’s Reputation for Elite Luxury Vehicles

Rolls Royce rarely does anything by halves, including its new SUV. The interior of the Cullinan continues the auto maker’s reputation for bespoke, upscale luxury, and has a variety of features any student in auto mechanic training school would love.

Let’s start with the off-road button. Yes, a button. As soon as the driver presses it, the Cullinan becomes fully off-road capable, activating the all-wheel drive, raising the suspension, and sending uninterrupted torque to all four wheels for better performance no matter the surface.

Generally, almost all Rolls Royce cars include bespoke options such as custom colours and upholstery, but the Cullinan takes customer personalization a step farther. The new SUV comes with recreation modules, which clip into the hatch floor and provide 48 litres of internal storage space. Cullinan owners can even consult with Rolls Royce to commission a tailored interior that incorporates their personal interests such as skiing, BASE jumping, and even falconry.
