Car Mechanic Training

Mechanic school students tend to get excited when a top car company launches a new model, and this news is no exception. BMW has announced the launch of its latest Sports Activity Coupe, and newest addition to its X Model line, the X4 M40i, available starting in January 2016. It looks incredible, and with the specs being thrown around, should drive incredibly too.

If you are planning to enroll in mechanic courses, or you’ve recently started your program, read on to learn more about the BMW X4 M40i.

Sports Activity Coupes: Luxury over Good Car Mechanics?

In recent years, sports activity or ‘crossover’ coupes have divided opinions in the car world like few other model types. Crossovers, which combine coupe-style designs with SUV performance features, have proved popular with a small niche market, but have had their critics. Many feel that crossovers fail to offer either the practicality of SUVs or the performance of a high-end coupe.

Car lovers usually have strong opinions, and a mechanic school can often be a place of furious debate, with students and instructors all weighing in with their views on the performance of different engines, brands and models. The release of the X4 M40i is sure to cause a few heated debates in classrooms and shop floors over the next few months.

BMW has been a long-time champion of the crossover, first with the release of the X6 in 2008, and then refining their vision last year with the launch of the X4. Will the X4 M40i, which has been given the full treatment from the company’s M Performance Specialists, finally win over the doubters? We’ll have to wait and see, but the specs are impressive.

A Brand New Engine Car Mechanics Can’t Wait To Work On

For many apprentices, the best moment of their car mechanic training comes the first time they get a chance to work on a top-end, high quality luxury car engine. And we can imagine plenty of students will be dreaming of getting their hands on what the X4 M40i is carrying.

The model will be the first to carry BMW’s new M Performance Twinpower Turbo inline 6-cylinder petrol engine, which ups the ante to 355 hp and 343 lb-ft torque, for a top speed of 250km/h and an acceleration of 0-62mph (0-100km/h) in 4.9 seconds. This certainly sounds like sports car level performance.

Other X4 M40i Features that Mechanic School Students Should Know About

Like all X models, the all-new X4 boasts xDrive—BMW’s all-wheel drive system—as standard. The model has kept the original X4’s signature chassis, along with the Dynamic Damper Control that made its predecessor such a smooth ride. Nineteen-inch wheels come as standard, and there have been improvements to the body design as well, with the X4 M40i finished with black chrome dual exhausts, and ferric grey front and side mirrors.

What the Rise of Crossovers Could Mean for Car Mechanics

The X4 M40i already has plenty of competition in the market, from the Audi SQ5 to the Mercedes-Benz GLC450 AMG, which is due for release next summer. If car buyers finally take to the idea of crossover coupes, aspiring mechanics could soon find themselves with a shop full of vehicles that require a combination of SUV and coupe mechanical services. It’s sounds challenging but, for mechanic school students, it will sure make life interesting.
